Our goal
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we built in
- Real text for the schedule and calendar, instead of pictures of text, so screen readers and search can read them.
- Every link, button, and form works from a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
- A “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
- Text and background colors chosen to meet AA contrast. Yellow and orange are never used for body text.
- A “Pause motion” button that stops all animation (more below).
- Form fields have labels, and say which ones are required.
- Pages work on small phones and zoomed-in screens.
Pause motion
Moving things on a screen can be distracting or make some people feel unwell. The “Pause motion” button stops every animation on this site: the waving flag, photos that tilt or zoom, and numbers that count up. Everything still shows, just standing still. Press “Play motion” to turn it back on.
On a computer, the button is in the dark strip at the very top of every page. On a phone or tablet, open the menu and it is the first button. It is also at the bottom of every page.
Your choice is remembered on this device, so you only set it once. If your phone or computer is set to reduce motion, the site starts with motion paused on its own.
Known gaps
Some older documents, such as past annual reports and application forms, are PDFs and may not work well with every screen reader. If you need one in another format, email us and we will send it in a way that works for you.
Tell us about a barrier
If something is hard to use, email info@alsoyouth.org or call (941) 254-7178. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will help you get the information another way.
