ALSO Youth recently received a grant from the Bishop Parker Foundation that will fund more counseling services for the LGBTQ+ community.
Spectrum Bay News 9 reported on a $32,433 grant from the Bishop Parker Foundation that pays for more free counseling sessions at ALSO Youth. It came at the right time: ALSO told the station that the need for counseling had grown by more than 40% that year.
The story follows a young adult who found support in ALSO’s therapy program and now gives back as a counselor at Camp True Colors, our spring camp. Executive Director Mel Gosselin said bullying at school, families who are struggling to understand, and youth who have been pushed out of their homes are behind many of the calls. The story also noted that ALSO was looking for a new Sarasota home after the 2024 hurricanes damaged its center.
