As LGBTQ+ Floridians face new threats, locals point to education. ‘Language is so important’

As Pride Month 2022 wrapped up, the Bradenton Herald asked local advocates how the community should respond to new threats against LGBTQ+ Floridians. ALSO Youth Outreach Coordinator Christine Grossman, who works with youth exploring who they are and with people who want to learn about the community, said education is the best way to stop false information from spreading.

Grossman explained why words matter: gender neutral language is the safest choice, even though habits learned young are hard to change. She also warned that linking queer people to predators or recruiters is a dangerous story with no basis in fact.
